The AM transmitter of radio station KWKH in Shreveport, Louisana, had its power increased to 50 Kilowatts (50,000 watts) in October, 1939. It still operates today on the same frequeny of 1130 Khz, and is classified as a "Clear-Channel Station (one that has its night time Secondary Service Area protected from interference from other AM stations by Government planning and regulations). If the highly directional Antenna system of KWKH is taken into account, the resultant gain gives an 'estimated' power of 135 Kilowatts transmitted in an East-West direction. The East-West coverage area gradually 'spreads out' in a North-South direction with increased distance from the transmitting site.
