The AM transmitter of radio station KWKH in Shreveport, Louisana, had its power increased to 50 Kilowatts (50,000 watts) in October, 1939. It still operates today on the same frequeny of 1130 Khz, and is classified as a "Clear-Channel Station (one that has its night time Secondary Service Area protected from interference from other AM stations by Government planning and regulations). If the highly directional Antenna system of KWKH is taken into account, the resultant gain gives an 'estimated' power of 135 Kilowatts transmitted in an East-West direction. The East-West coverage area gradually 'spreads out' in a North-South direction with increased distance from the transmitting site. Amazing recording, though we do not yet know the singer. Made by KWKH to promote themselves. KWKH was originally owned and operated by W.K. Henderson (thus the WKH in the call letters). The title is from Henderson's familiar greeting to begin his broadcasts: "Hello world, doggone ya." Circa-1930, Henderson was one of the nation's most popular radio commentators.
A traditional final radio call was done during Friday's memorial service for slain Shreveport Police Officer Thomas LaValley, Badge #1284.
